Swivel seats

Postby eddiewalkling » Sat Jan 30, 2010 11:36 am

Hi, I've been thinking about how to change my drivers and bench seat to two swivels in my 99 Transit for ages. Coming up often is the use of older Espace seats that already are swivels from the scrap yard costing 60 - 80 quid. This sounds like great value considering just the swivel parts are around 100 - 220 quid and I'd still have to get a single seat and possibly some bases. I understand that the espace seats would need some modification, someone said that they are small and you can weld or bolt cross bars to them. I guess these cross bars would then go over the holes in my floor pan, I'd put holes in the correct places and just bolt them in?

There are however lots of other considerations it seems like increased or decreased seat hight, wether or not the seats will swivel in the right direction and if the seats will clear the handbrake?

Has anyone fitted (or know anyone who has) these seats (or seats like them) to a pre 2000 transit (smiley face)? How did it go? Did they work?

Thanks very much, Ed

What an amazing job! Obviously very talented. Building seat supports and extended runners is beyond my abilities though, so looks like I'm only going to be able to get the passenger to swivel?

Thanks for the link.

I used a espace swivel sub frames, but I only paid £20 - £30 each for mine. On the older versions the subframe is separate from the seat, but later ones are part of the seat :(
Height is an issue on the passenger side, as there isnt any adjustment on my MK3, so I would fit a drivers subframe. I had to weld the swivel on to the existing subframe, but bolted the serria seat on top after a bit of drilling and add a 1" box section to the front to give the right rack backwards... Works a treat and is one about 1 1/2 thick. 8)
