how to bypass a mk7 egr valve?

Postby Luke » Sat Jan 30, 2010 3:45 pm

not sure if this is either true or allready on the forum but i cant find any info :!:

but apparantly you can bypass the mk7 egr by removing a gear out of it so it stays shut but doesnt throw up the engine managment light :!:

anyone tried it :?: does it work :? :D

I did try it but the EML was already on, it didn't clear the EML. Coconut suggested that it may work though. But others have said that the MK7 EGR has a position sensor in it. Give it a go.

If you blank it it puts the light on, and if you unplug it it puts the light on, so i'm guessing if you take a gear out of it it will put the light on :(

I've just had a new one, I should have kept the old one and I could have tried takin it to bits

I blanked mine off about 6000 mile ago, management light came on but I just ignored it as the van was running perfect.
Strangely though over the last couple of weeks the engine malfunction message has appeared on my
screen and the van goes into limp mode. Once I turn the engine off and restart it runs fine for sometimes a couple of days before it comes on again.
The last time it came on, I turned the engine off and unplugged the EGR while it was whistling and the noise stopped. Restarted and the van was as flat as a dab. Stopped again waited for the EGR to stop whistling unplugged it again and the van ran fine.
The only thing I can think of was the first time I unplugged the EGR it was partly open and had sent a signal to the brain. causing loss of power.
When I unplugged the second time the EGR was closed so no signal was sent to the brain.Either way the engine malfunction message hasn't appeared on the screen since.

I may be wrong but I thought it had some kind of flow sensor inside it which is why the light comes on if you blank it

Even your Egr looks cleanish Mike  I'm quite surprised considering the trouble these things cause no one has designed a blanking kit that also adapts the signals for the ecu yet! :)

So now you have 1 apart, what was the fault, is it something the precision engineering company I use can have a look at & repair & maybe we could set up some kind of exchange scheme going :D
