Annoying Central Locking

Postby hotsocks » Sun Feb 07, 2010 1:13 am

Howdy Fellas. Hows it going?
I have a little question for a friend who is a tire fitter.
His van is a Transit works van which has a compressor fitted which drives off the engine. When he is working around the back of the van he has to have the engine running whilst he is fitting a tire to a truck.
He had a close shave last week where as he was around the back of the van fitting a tire. The engine was running to keep the compressor working and he noticed a hooded wan*er taking a interest in whats in the front of the van. Fortunately he saw him and told the hoodie to f off before he kicks in his head.
The problem is that you cant lock the van whilst its running. It just takes one nob to jump in and nick everything in the cab. even with the back doors open and no key in the ignition and the engine switched off you go to lock it and it just unlocks itself again. Stupid thing. He has to have the central locking working as there is no key hole in the back doors.
Whats his best option to keep the van locked whilst the engine is running?
I told him just to use a second key and lock the van in the door lock by hand which does actually work but only if the back doors are shut.If the back door open it just unlocks its self again.
My only solution I can think of is to disconnect the central locking in the front and side doors and you can then keep all doors locked with the back door open.
What do you reckon.

Remote fob only works if the engine is turned off.

correct me if i'm wrong here fellas, but If you disconnect the ignition feed to the locking module, it should allow the fob to work regardless of engine running or not, then follow Dean Machines advice:

Always a good idea to use a spare key for this, as then you can still open van with the other one from drivers keyhole should the fob pack up.

Didn't RAC or AA have summat that allowed 'em to take the key out with the engine running?.... suppose some kind of relay set up... or simply put a good steering wheel lock on first then start the motor...

Yea, there is a way the RAC did it, and it could be used here thats not the main issue though if you read first post. That still dosent allow you to lock the front doors, leaving the back open.
Still need to know if removing the ignition feed to the CSM will allow the fob to operate again, as far as I can see from TIS, thats the only inhibit input from ignition switch.

Staffies work better, as they can lie in the passenger footwell and Mr Theiving Scumbag can't see the dog till it jumps up on to the seat showing its teeth, Mr Theiving Scumbag usually Cr**s his self at this point

has nothing to do with the engine running, it's the back doors bing open that causing it to bounce. Had the same issue on mine because the rear handle was moving past it's stop and not making the contact. Best option would be to put a lock back in the rear door and isolate the c/locking.
