Timing belt or "kit"?

Postby trippydog » Tue Feb 23, 2010 4:14 pm

Trying to sort my probs I'm going to have a look at the timing and makes sense to change the cam belt anyway as no idea when it was last done.

Before I buy a belt I just wondered what people's thoughts were spending the extra 30-40 quid and replacing the tensioners & rollers.. is that normally needed?

Cheers.

I just replaced the belt on mine as the bearings in the tensioner sounded ok.

There's no harm in replacing it, then you know you've got a good one :)

I bought a kit today from motaquip for 44 quid, i dont know the price difference if i just bought a belt but i know how much damage a broken tensioner can cause.
Not worth the risk.IMO.

If you're not sure when, or if it was last done, then change the lot ....... water pump as well if funds will allow

Here... why do some state some water pumps as cast or alloy... is one better than the other?
