grey cable problem or not

Postby gary smith » Fri Feb 26, 2010 10:04 pm

i think i have a grey gear selector problem as my gears are grinding 2nd and 3rd sometime 1st anyway i dont think its the clutch as there is no slipping.
first questing can i spray wd40 up the breather pipe or the reverse plug to see if its the selector sezied first.
second were and what way do you tighten the grey cableanit clockwise or clockwise. also do i need to count the turns if it makes it worse.

squirting down the breather will just go into gearbox.

it sounds like the selector turret is sticking, if it were grey cable problem you would crunch in 2nd and reverse, as the cable actually squashes and can not engage fully 2nd and reverse.

you can get the bearing seal from ford that fails for couple of quid, take selector off box, renew bottom pinch bolt(you wiull have to take it off to get the shaft out anyway) for a high tensile one, as this is also common for snapping or coming loose which then destroys gearbox casing :(
