OK easy one!!

On the twin wheelers is there a tapered washer/spacer that fits between the 2 wheels on each stud?

just mine hasnt got any just looks like there should be!!

basically no the little tapered washers that sit against the brake drum center the inner wheel and the wheel nut centers the outer wheel

Cheers geoff - i'll have a look again but i didnt see any tapered washers on the inside either! unless thats cos my axle was origanaly a single wheeler!

they might not initially look like washers, they should be ... if i rememebr correctly the split type ?? ... and more of a dome shape, thus when the outer wheel is tightened down it centers the inner one, and this is one of the reasons why the nuts must be tightenned correctly in stages.

and if yours was a single wheel originally then you might be right there might not be any fitted.

It was origanally a single wheel 5 stud but i changed the axle for a single wheel 6 stud!! and ive found that twin wheels fit - ie clear the leaf springs!!!

luke all i have with the mk1 is the washers that go on the studs on the rear drums hope this will help you mate!

Luke, so i take it you have changed the front axle as well ? as this is a twinwheel axle for sure(or at least hubs), im sure if you stuck twin wheel wheels on a 6 stud single rear axle they would stick right out have you fitted 2 wheels on 1 side yet?

geoff ..... cant he just fit the hub extenders to the front ? or are the bolt spacings diiferent ?

Yeah mate - this is for my pickup by the way not my van!!
I fitted them and yes they do stick out but my long term plans are to build a recovery back, crewcab and chassis extention for it a so they wont look out of place!!

I think the full width is a touch over 7' mabe stick out a few inches!!

Luke, i think you might have to fit longer studs and definitely the tapered washers to center the inner wheel,get the washers from a twinwheel axle then fit them and measure the remaining stud, then measure the 2 wheels you will need at least a full nutfull of thread left to be safe

From the pics I thought your pickup was a twin wheeler. Now I look again I realise the wheelbase is a bit small, so it makes sense you have changed the axles.....

the front axle is complete from a mk3 lwb twin wheel 190!!
the back is off a mk2 single wheel van with 6 studs!!
