Oil Leak

Postby MurrayXmas » Tue Mar 09, 2010 6:17 pm

Hi My 96 190 bananna has an oil leak (well a couple actually) one seems to be coming from the back of the vac pump and is covering the oil filter and suspension with oil. the other seems to be coming from the back of the rocker cover and dripping down onto the exhaust and a thing with two pipes coming out of it ( I'll try and get some pics up).
Is it safe to just disconect the oil feed from the vac pump to check for splits or will more oil spray all over my driveway???
Also any tips on getting a stuck sump plug off??
Cheers! :D

Disconnect the oil pipe from back of altto check for leaks, but do not do this while engine is running. The oil is fed from the oil pump and a couple of minutes running will empty engine of oil and leave a slick the size of Exxon Valdese.
Rocker cover gasket leaks are common. Other thing to check (at alternator side) is the pressure release valve (24mm socket bolt vertical beside oil filter on block.
Oil filter seals tend to get dried out and leak if not changed regularly). Servo pump lubricating pipe leaks are also common.
Hope you find the cause.
If it ain't broke..... fiddle with it till it is.... then fix it.

Got the sump plug out eventually and gave big bluey an oil and filter change today. Rekon the oil leak may be coming from the back of the vac pump but can't get at it to see. Will have to investigate further when i have a spare moment. :?
