side lights

Postby peteman » Sun Mar 07, 2010 9:52 am

I have a 2001 tdci pick up which i cant get side lights working on.
head lights are fine,my question is do all the lights on the switch work from the same live cable ?.
I have removed the switch and can only find one live feed.
Is it common for the side light part of the switch to fail?

The switch works from a common live feed but the sidelights and headlights are on different circuits thereafter.

There will be three circuits IIRC (plus another for main beam):

Sidelights & Tail lights
L/H Headlight
R/H Headlight

Have you checked the sidelight circuit fuse?

Do your tail lights still work? If they do, then it's not a fuse problem. More likely to be blown bulbs at the front or a break in the circuit.

Hi
I have ran a live feed from battery to fuse box and all lights come on,i then put live feed to rear of switch and lights came on again.
volt metre only shows one yellow and orange lead to be live.
Problem seems to be either in the switch or after it.
There are ten or so pins in plug but i have no idea what each feeds.
They are all numbered but i have no referance to check which is side lights'

This would suggest a switch problem then.

surely that would rule out a fuse problem :?

There is obviously power to the switch as the headlights work and there is obviously no problem from the fusebox onwards as the lights come on when he applies direct power.

To me this suggests either the switch itself or the feed from switch to fusebox.

But on some vehicles, there are fuses after the switch :? So just thought I'd ask

That was my impression, based on the MK6s I have owned. The switch is fed with a direct supply and the fuse is between the switch and the load.

 Having thought about it more, it must be the switch unit itself at fault :!:

Hi guys, I have a similar problem whereby, I only have the H4 bulb working on the N/s lamp. Both the sidelight bulb and auto leveller doesnt work.

Do you think this could be a switch problem too? I've checked wiring which seems ok, and also checked another working lamp off a mates van and still same problem.

Thanks in advance, Chris.
