Engine replacment.

Postby tunitt » Fri Apr 09, 2010 4:17 pm

I need a new engine in my 1989 transit as the breakdown broke it!! its a 1989 mk3 lwb luton NA 2.5d on a E plate.
So Couple of questions.

Does anyone now where i can get one?
I need it to have a 5 speed gearbox as the one i have has a 4 speed. :(

I have seen a couple on ebay. Would a newer "banana" engine fit in? What about one with a turbo? I could do with a newer one with a turbo.

PLEASE HELP. i need one asap as i use it for work. I cannot get on from a breaking transit.

only thing you would change is the engine mounts from the old engine to the new one as mk3 rubber mounts are diffrent to mk5(banana engine)with the banana engine you can take off the manifolds and just fit your old ones otherwise you will also need the exhaust and air box adding extra expense(the later air box is a little quieter but not by much)
If you want 5 gears you have to cut the floor to make it fit(do a search its been done lots,I have done it a few times but dont think i posted how i did it)Basicaly you cut out a section from the van the gearbox came from cut your floor to suit and either weld it back together or pop rivet until you can get it welded.you will need the gearbox crossmember as well)

Thanks for that.

do you think that the standard box is a 4 speed as i think when i brought it he said that there was a 5 speed in there but replaced it for a 4 speed when it broke and couldnt find a 5 speed.

I will look for the same engine as in it then as it sounds like a lot of work and need it to be on road asap.

Only the engine mounts and manifold needs changing its not difficult to do and TBH if you struggle with that you probably shouldn't take on the engine change

How far are you from the charnock richards services between jct 27 and 28 of the M6?

About 18 miles.

How much and I take it its a direct replacement.

£100 for complete engine and MT75 box. It's still in the R reg van so you can drive it a short distance.

I have a crane. Bring a chisel and you can have the floor pan to match the box.

Someone may confirm the prop shaft will connect?

Hello Tunitt, can you let me know if you will be requiring my engine and box?

If not, does anyone else require a Di and MT75?
