Urgent help needed, wheres my oil?

Postby b1jc » Sun Apr 11, 2010 4:08 pm

I just started doing an oil change today.

MK6 135ps SWB TDCI

I warmed the engine up, undone the filter housing, got half a litre out, now it's stopped, I checked the dipstick and it's still on the max, removed filter completely, and removed the filler cap, still no more coming out.

What have I done wrong :?:

Should I have warmed the engine right upto operating temp :?:

sump plug is a 13mm bolt in sump.

dont forget to only tighten the oil filter cup just past hand tight, its the oring on the side at bottom of threads that seals it so over tightening makes no difference, just makes it too tight to remove, then breaks.

You don't worry about that... I barely knew how to open the bonnet when I found this forum  8) I was posting pictures of parts asking what they are called and I learnt how to jack the van up without fainting  8) You must agree - it is funny... TBH I was expecting someone to post you picture of part 710 as an answer, just healthy fun, don't take it personally :!:

I'm the first to take the p1ss out of myself. But I don't think that comment was left purely in jest. I tend to make it very clear when having a joke on forums, otherwise it's all too easy to be misunderstood.

I don't think I'm wrong on this one, am I?

I think he ment it in a good way, that's the instruction missing in Haynes manual too  When I'm looking for something I need a picture personally, I wouldn't feel offended

So did you drain it at the end? I just had the oil changed on Thursday only to find that someone took grippers onto the plug completely rounding it off   Now THAT is a crime :!: And out of curiosity - what is the mileage of the van and what oil are you putting in?

Just don't take it too hard :D

When you post a question, you're going to get useful answers, and some not so useful ones, ( have a look at some of the stick that Nadjenka has had to put up with on her threads   )

Only look at the useful answers, and ignore the rest. Thats what most of us do 8) :D

Then some of us then reply to he silly comments and get off topic don't know who does that

Sump plug should be easy to find it will simply be on the bottom of the sump (no sarcasm intended) if you still stuck then AKE has a mk6 im sure he will take a pic of it for you.

and Nadjenka - a Duratorque engine should always be fed 5w/30 semi synthetic because they are a much hogher tolerance engine than the old and indestrictable 2.5di ;)

even though a mk6 will still run happily on mineral 15w-40, even though it should be 5w-30 semi,
and Ford recommend 10w-30 semi for 2.5di's now.
