Hi folks just a wee quick question. My friend has a 2000 model transit which he has difficulty selecting 2nd and reverse gear and sometimes it jumps out of reverse gear. Any ideas? Apparently the gearbox was reconditioned before he bought it.

FWD or RWD what engine 2litre or 2.4litre..if FWD then try readjusting the gearstick cables as the cables streatch..

If the cable adjustment does'nt fix it, it may be the bearing in the top of the selector turret seizing up. This stops the shaft moving up and down freely. Can be fixed comparitivly easily

Had a look at the van today and cables seem ok. Have found that gear lever can be pressed down through every gear. Should this not only happen for reverse?

my gear stick will push down as well when in any gear as well.
Have you checked the cables and the bit on the gearbox??
