Wheeley Problem Spec Lift

Hi All
I am looking for some advice I have a ford transit 1986 C reg 190 twin wheel SWB
It was turned in to a spec lift buy a garage 10 years ago

Anyways it has a steel boxed back and spec on the rear the problem is I can’t stop
If something happens and I need to apply the brakes quickly the front wheels lock up
and sends me skidding down the road not funny at all

I was thinking that I should try a small car so today we tried a ford fiesta same problem applied the braked front wheels go in to a skid Its now got to dangerous to use so I have pulled it off the road until its sorted

When its parked up with out a load the back sits up nice but not as high as I have seen other trucks out there when its got something on the spec it dose drop a little on the rear and I think its got only 6 leaf springs and how old they are I don’t know


Or could it be that I need some sort of bumper weight on the front I don’t know what way to go with it as I phoned a guy to day who said new leafs £320 + Vodka and Tonic

have a look at Muttleys vans, he has bloody great bumpers on them, i should think they add a fair bit of weight

load sensing valve seized

dont know much about them would they affect the front wheels ? I thought thats was for the rear ?

if its stuck it will put the brakes on the front more than the rear

aww im with you so when I put a load on the back its locking the brakes up very good point mate

when you put a load on it should brake more on the back if its stuck then when you have weight on the fronts will lock up. they are always doing it

Hi mate I have replied to your pm, the problem is the rear brake limiter valve, when you beef up the rear with bigger springs the valve will assume you have no load as the axle is away from the chassis. This means you are braking all on the front, you can move the bracket on the axle upwards so you can get the adjustment back to manufacturers spec. I have modified the valves on my trucks to feed more braking to the rear all the time so that they stop without locking up. A weighted front bumper will also help, my trucks also have 100kg weights welded to the chassis behind the bumpers

only ever had a weighted front bumper which made my steering heavy at low speeds(mk3 no pas)my exAA spec had air rear suspension so never had issues..does sound like the load valve is seized go under the back axle and see if it move's..if not try freeing it up but if it dont work after that renew it..

I have put a 100kgs bumper weight on the front and
Adjusted the brake limiter most of the problem was that brake
limiter thanks again all I had nearly given up on the old girl
