Mk5 Smiley Glow Plug Light

Postby projectzip » Sun Apr 25, 2010 1:06 pm

Looking at a picture of a handbook on ebay I should have a glow plug light on my dash.
But when I turn on the ignition I dont get one on the dash.
I havent had the dash apart yet so my question is should it come on with ignition? Or only if theres a problem.
Im thinking the bulb in the dash has died.

Some over seas Di Transits are fitted with a flame start system which uses the glowplug light, but UK spec Transits don't need it so its not fitted. A 2.5 Di in good condition will start at -20c with no pre heat :D

I had the cold start option on my Mk5. Here's how to recognise it:

In 12 years in the UK, I only saw the warning light once.
