Advice wanted!

Postby BULIJUM » Sun May 02, 2010 12:55 pm

Having JUST ordered a new 350 LWB HR 2.4 140PS RWD Trannie, I need advice on maximum trailer/caravan weights I can tug with this van? IS IT 2000KG OR MORE? Also what final drive ratio/axle ratio is best for towing AND economy??? I will be tugging a twin axle trailer gross weight 2000kg regularly and a twin axle caravan gross 1900kg occasionally!!!!!

Not sure what axle you will get but my 115ps 350 has a 3.73 rear axle, and it is plated for a Max Train Weight of 5500kg, which is a full to the limit van and a 2 tonne trailer, and I'm sure it would cope no problem, so your 140 would walk it :D

THANKS FOR YOUR REPLY AKE. IN THE BROCHURE, FORD STATE A CHOICE OF EITHER 3.73 OR 4.72! I WILL HAVE 2 ASK MY LOCAL DEALER WHICH IS BEST! AS 4 GROSS TRAIN ITS ALSO PROBABLY PLATED 5500KG WHICH MEANS A 2000KG TUGGING LIMIT! AGAIN! MY CURRENT FWD VW TRANS ALSO TUGS 2000KG BUT NOT AS COMPETENTLY AS RWD!!!!! APART FROM AIR CON, THE TRANNY COMES WITH ALL THE TOYS INC CRUISE AS ITS THE TREND PACK! WHAT ECONOMY FIGURES DOES YOURS RETURN? IS YOURS A HT LWB?

Mine is a medium wheel base medium roof and so far its doing 400 to a tank but its only been on the road a week :) The 3.73 is the better one for economy, although the other would tow a bit better

WITH FUEL PRICES AS THEY ARE I SIT IN THE SLOW LANE DOING 56MPH OR 90KMH JUST A BIT FASTER THAN MOST LORRIES! MY VW RETURNS 40 + MPG LOADED AND 48 EMPTY!THATS ABOUT 700+ MILES PER 80LTR TANK!!! WITH THE TRAILER ON 30 - 33! OBVIOUSLY A TRANNY IS BIGGER AND NEW SO ECONOMY WILL BE AFFECTED BUT HOPEFULLY AS THE ENGINE BEDS IN 35 SHOULD BE ACHIEVABLE!?!
