My 1999 mk5 has started doing a couple of strange things when started from cold I get a couple of ks down the road then the van speeds up on her own I take my foot of the pedal then she starts to slow pumps smoke out of exhaust then I push the pedal the smoke clears then shes fine. Done it twice now about a week apart

What colour smoke :?:

I'd remove the rocker cover and check that all the 10mm bolts are in place
When was the fuel filter last replaced :?:
