Buying a Transit

Postby st_effen » Mon May 17, 2010 10:53 pm

Hi! First of all: Nice forum!! second, im Norwegian, so my english might be a bit hard to understand from time to tome

Im considering buying a Ford Transit as my daily driver. Im After a Van with tree seats.

Im going to replace my T4 Transporter from Volkswagen and was going to go for a Hiace, but i think they are rather "boaring" and i was told that Ford Transit was a underestimated car and that it was worth cheking out! :D

So i have some questions:

At the amount of monney i can put out for a car i wil get something like a 2005-2007 model Transit with engines ranging from 85/88HP-100HP diesel. Are theese reliable engines? At what milage should for instance the timing belt be replaced? Should i avoid the smallest engine? I wont be hauling heavy trailers etc...

Are there any common problems with Transit that i need to be aware of?

How is a van like this to drive when it comes to noise and driving comfort?

What milage pr litre of fuel can i expect?

Thats it for now, hope my english isnt to bad!!

Thanks for Answers!

Best regards Steffen :D

Timing chain on these engines, change it when it starts to rattle, the 85ps is actually quite good but really you want more
Transits are good to drive and reasonably quiet and refined, as for mpg depending on model and engine choice, load and how hard you drive you can expect anything from 20-35mpg

Have a search round the forum cause all of these subjects have been covered :)

2013 Ford Fiesta Van 95ps
