mk2 transit half shaft question

Postby tuscan440 » Fri Jun 17, 2005 8:33 pm

just managed to get the N/R half shaft back in to the diff after my weekend mishap (see other post on this section) where it was pulled out sideways. have replacement bearings and hub and all seems to work well but the half shaft is slightly bent. it fits fine wthin it housing but is this gona be a problem??? cant actually feel any vibration when driving but worried it might shake the new bearing to pieces. what do you rekon??

Mate ive never been in that position but i wouldnt use a bent halfshaft - i wouldn't imagine the bearing lasting too long atall :(

A bent half shaft is not a good thing and a vechicle should not be run with one, you might not be able to feel any vibration but believe me it is there.

Go to the scappie and get another half shaft. it won't be too much money, and you'll have the piece of mind.

yup thats knackered, and make sure you get the right length one, a mk3 one will be a little shorter, and seem like it is fitting, but will morethan likely strip the splines in a short period of time
