I asked a while ago about doing it at the lock, so took it out (drill rivets, remove rear guide) and managed to drill a small hole in the lock mechanism to take the rod from the solenoid, only done passenger side for now, but will take pics when I do the drivers side, all security (???? LOL) covers fit back on too.. popped a bit of sound deadening in the doors too, not as clanky now!

Thats was how I did mine, buy drilling the lock mechanism, I used MK4 Escort Actuators IIRC

Right, lets asume that the lock is out and the white plastic cover removed (this is drivers lock, pass' is mirrored:


Drill a hole here:


Feed through the rod that comes with the c/locking, motor kit slight bending may be required:


Reassemble plastic cover and fit back in door, both rods will now be hanging down, push lock rod back in and attatch motor rod to motor as picture... the motor is screwed straight to the door, try and keep the motor & rod angles as straight as poss' (bend to suit):


Refit security cover if you wish (not worth a carrot really!) feed wire through grommet (best taken off). done

Don't see the point in those security covers as they are INSIDE the door, the door would have to be open and the door card off to remove it

99% sure thats where I drilled the lock I only removed the bottom of the 'Security' Cover

How long will it take for me to stop putting the F*&%$£ key in the lock aswell as using the fob? D'oh!

how do you go about wiring up the motors to the electrics?? i have a different key for most of my doors so sounds like a plan to fit c/l

at the very least you'll need positive and negative supplies... little more for light flash and stuff, but fairly easy for the novice electrician.

Just fitting aftermarket central locking on Mk5 1999. Here's the driver's side lock with new solenoid ready to refit. The plastic cover was trimmed slightly to fit where the new actuator rod emerges from the side of the lock. I notice that the original posted version uses the rod clamp at the lower end, with the forged end in the locking lever hole, this would allow easier changing of the solenoid. I didn't fancy the solenoid fixed to the side of the door frame, so I have mounted it to the inner side, lower down. The positioning of the perforated strip picks up the lower hole for the popriveted galvanised shield, means you just need to drill a second 4mm hole to coincide with the bottom of the perforated strip. Can't find anybody else's pictures of side or rear lock fitting, so I will post these in the next few days, as I do them.

Finally the Rear Door. Fiddly to remove the mechanism, but all fits together well.






Taken an hour or two for each door, from scratch.
