ive been in a hired minibus with 9 others that rolled on the m69 at over 80mph before present law,i can tell you it wasnt much fun, luckly there was only a small fence in the way and bar cuts and bruises we all got out safe.
cause of the crash was the tread on the tyre came completely off leaving just the canvas inside of tyre still blown up,acting like a balloon
tread of tyre came off because the van had a slow puncture over a long period which the hire company couldnt be bothered to fix, when tyre goes down water gets in and slowly and f##ks up the the glue between rubber and canvas
so any one who gets a slow punction get it fixed dont f##k about with it,(saying it will be all right for a couple of days) it wont

been in a 56 seater when a woman driver in a car hit the coach n the distance it took the coach to stop while pushing the car down the motorway was huge. I'd hate to try stopping a transit 17 seater sitting at 4.1 ton with normal van brakes.

Q. Which vans meet the criteria to be considered car derived vans for speed limit purposes?

A. Very few vans will meet the criteria to benefit from the same speed limits as a car. Those that do are likely to be similar to a Ford Fiesta van ,Vauxhall Corsa or Renault Clio van in having maximum payloads of around 500kgs so that when combined with the weight of the vehicle unladen (normally around 1.4 tonnes) the maximum laden weight of the whole vehicle will not exceed 2 tonnes.

What this means is that vans such as the Ford Transit and (and of course the larger panel vans) will not meet the definition of car derived vans set out set out in part IV section 2 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984. Therefore these vehicles will be subject to speed limits of 50mph on single carriageways and 60 mph on dual carriageways.

Hi guys,
Just to clarify a little point here, it says the corsa van is car derived so would that put my friends vauxhall combo ( obviously corsa derived) into the car derived class or is it classed as a genuine van :? :? When we are on smaller jobs we do use his van instead of my tranny and yet we have never considered the implications regarding speeds etc as per usual he drives it like a car and at normal car speeds!

If it shares panels/running gear with the car, then it will be car derived, BUT it mustn't have a GVW of over 2000kg.

The speed limiter is set using ford IDS and can be removed by the same. Should only be half an hours labour to complete. If they ask for an hour, tell them you have been quoted half somewhere else and they will usually do it for half an hour.

If someone tells me that they can get a job done half price, I tell them to go and get it done!

But then would inflate your price 100% :?:

I do agree with that it annoys me when people barter with me to that extent.
