spare coolant hoses?

I'm off to Greece soon and was just wondering about adding hoses to the list of spares I'm carrying... My hoses look fine but you never know...Or do you? Theyre original and 130,000 miles down the line??

Now if I require this I dont want to buy a full set. Can anyone recommend flexi hose that I can buy by the meter? and supplier pleez

I've never had any problems with flexi hoses when fitted properly, you need to make sure that they don't rub on anything or bounce around to much.

I'm pretty sure that most motor factors stock them or can get them, I've got them from motaquip in the past. Seem to remember them comping in 1 meter lenghts.

The only one ive ever had a problem* with (Di) is the one going from the top right front of the engine to the heater matrix!!!

*very big problem! - sister driving my camper to rockingham from sheffield, rings me up to say im in 1st gear wont go any faster!! when i got it back i took the head off it had melted the pistons to the side of the block ........ engine no.3 went in!!!

Was this a late one Luke, they don't like the heat. I had a hose go on an early DI on the way back from Paris (nearly to the point of siezure), got it fixed, pootled around a bit then had to have the head gasket done, engine is now in van no 3! Yet we are on newgen no 2, having the same thing happen on the way back from Oxford, put holes in 2 pistons!!!

As an emegency measure, you can get some hose repair tape from the motor factor's, or even plumber's mearchants. It's not sticky tape, it's for hoses and only sticks to itself and comes on a roll with a backing you remove before use. Also good for holding mirrors in the Mk2 heads!

It was a 91 engine - it wore through - it would have been alright if she hadn't kept on driving - in her defence the temp gauge is small on a mk1

MrMpuk well mate thats what I thought too but my mates in trade say they always have to buy hoses from main dealer?

When I used to work for Stagecoach the bus company we used to do modifactions to the cooling systems on the busses using the flexi hoses and never had any problems, we used to get the hoses from our local motor factors in Chichester.
