Yes you will need that black box, it's the EDIS module, the engine won't run without it

You will need the entire engine bay wiring loom from the ECU right round to the EDIS module, you can remove the fuseboxes though

really?

im going manual so i'll be getting some manifolds made, doubt there will be provision there for the egr diaphram thingy thats on the existing manifold.

That's what i've been told in Granada circles, supposed to give better midrange with it on but the engine will run without it, i kept the EGR on when i did my mk2 Granny

been having a read around the internets, some say it messes the idle and low end, some say its better without the egr, wonder if i can fit it but not connect it to the plenum and fool the ecu into thinking its working :?:

Here is a link to a Granada forum showing a schematic wiring diagram for the 24V cossie if you have a printer copy it, it's a usefull page for reference and you can use it to track what wires go where from the ECU http://www.granada-and-scorpio-online.c ... hreadid=69

theres a guy selling a fitting on ebay to convert the egr pipe to run the servo, so i thought i'd ask, got a shitty reply :!:

If you want to go looking at interweb forum rubbish - don't bring the problems to us. What you've heard is just more misguided tosh. Ford designed the ECU to run with a speed sensor on the gearbox. You should be using the MT75 box which has this facility. Any other suggestion of how to cure the idle problem is rubbish. If you remove the EGR pipe and send it to us, we'll get it tig'd for you - a tenner will cover it. At the exhaust manifold end, simly weld up the tube or the hole in the casting if you can get the tube out - mig is fine. Carefully remove the wiring to the EGR sensors and valves. There are feeds, earths and ECU lines. Regards - Neil

i guess the people having problems will be those running the original ecu on a type9 then....

The engine will run without the speed sensor but will stall at junctions, if you are not using an MT75 Burton sell a universal VSS which works off the prop bolts

spent some time today labelling up every connector in the engine bay, its going to be a while before i get to put it in the van and i dont want to forget what everything does!

ive also ripped the dash out so i can get what i need from behind there, and tbh it all looks a bit daunting, ive built looms before for motorbikes and spliced bike looms together when building hybrids, but this looks like a completely different game!

what do people do? use the transit fuse / relay boxes? do you just cut the loom and splice it into the tranny one? if so how do you know what goes where? the ecu pin out diagram dosent show any colours....

or do you unravel it all trace it all back and rewire it?

theres a bunch of large connectors under the granny dash above the ECU, but at first glance they seem to go to different systems (engine, abs etc) but theres also a lot of crossover between them, cant believe i need all the wiring, whats under the dash looks like a nest of snakes!

Gavin, just remove as much as you can without cutting, it's a lot easier to sort out when it's laying on the floor, you don't need the fuse box, abs ecu or the immobiliser, there are only about several wires to connect to the van

Positive to battery

Negative to battery

ignition fed power splice (feeds all the black wires) and the fuel pump relay

Green to rev counter

2 Brown earths (screwed to vehicle body)

pin 30 on ecu earth to body if using manual box

pin 3 on ecu is for the VSS

you may find if you strip the insulation off the loom and follow the wires you can remove a lot of it, follow the schematic diagram as it tells you what goes where
