2004 transit will not start

Postby m scott » Thu Jul 15, 2010 10:05 am

Hello, 3 weeks ago I mentioned on the forum that my transit 2.0 would only idle @ 500 rpm after standing for week while on holiday. After asking so many question and following your suggestions I ended up having the van towed to a fuel injection specialist the following is from their report.
fault on main relay, carried out pump scan found 2 faults rotation sensor and timing control, Intermittent power supply to injection pump. They went on to say the vehicle would probably require replacement pump and injectors.
As their auto electrician was on holiday they could not go further and requested I take the vehicle away as they could not store it for 2 weeks.
Up to the point when I parked it up the van run perfect good mileage and plenty of power indicating to me that the pump was fine and the injectors had been serviced 4000 miles ago.

Intermittent power supply to pump? that could be cause of other faults perhaps? in which case as they'd mentioned fault to main relay I'd start with that and see what happens next! what did they say Relay fault was? dirty contacts, dirty connections, only works with a tap?
logically a relay might go sticky or dirty in store so it is possible and a lot cheaper than a new pump on the off chance.

Thanks ollie, I will start with the relay and see what happens. My thoughts were along the same lines as you one item kicking in other faults, they didn't mention what the faults were to the relay but were very quick to tell me it would be around the £2500 mark to fix
Thanks for you input. M.S
