Postby gordymack » Sat Jul 10, 2010 8:16 pm

hi can anyone advise me i have 05 plate fwd transit 2.0 ltr 125ps which is leaking diesel from the solenoid valve which i thought could be replaced but the garage i took it to has told me that ford have told them that the fuel pump on my van cannot have the solenoid valve replaced advising me that i will have to replace the entire fuel pump which is not at all a cheap option , i would be most gratefull if any one can advise me ,,

Do you mean the solenoid on the side of the pump??
If so then yes they can be changed.

If your on about the one on the back of the pump, Lower down at the bottom then yes that can be changed and it can be bought from any ford dealer..

go to a different ford garage then and get the metering solenoid, or check it hasn't just come loose(to torx bolts) or it could be the high pressure feed pipe to the rail thats actually leaking. its sealed by an o-ring only.

if you give them your reg, and ask for a "inlet metering solenoid" they cant go wrong. :?

if you still struggle, go to a diesel specialist and ask for the part, it may cost you a little bit more though, from ford it should be around £75.

Btw sometimes its just easier to say you have a mondeo tdci as people seem to easily get confused with the tddi transits if you mention you have a mk6 tdci.
Specially Ford parts Staff
i was in one the other day and asked for some red antifreeze/coolant, the guy said ive been here 30years and weve never had red coolant its always been blue  i said just give me it, looked at it and it was red  cos the pretty picture on the fronnt was more a blue colour so the guy got confused.

is it just me or is there a confusion about solenoid valve on our fuel pumps we have a timing solenoid valve which if defective should not leake fuel and and from ford costs around £75 then we have the metering solenoid valve which is more expensive and common to be source of fuel leaks and requires special tool to replace and can be as much as £300 not inc labour

yes you are confused, the mk6 tdci fuel pump is totally different to the tddi one, motorfactors usually think all transit engines are the same tddi, so do Ford sometimes, thats why i find it easier to just say you have a mondeo tdci if you know what your after yourself and know which bits are the same.

Also, theres always mondeo tdci fuelpumps on ebay for sale, most of the time they are ok, as its the injectors that fail but lead people to think its a fuel pump problem, you can normally get them for around £100-£150, you can check the resistance of the IMV and fit it if ok.

post your reg to confirm.

if you do have a 2.0 125ps then it will be a tdci engine with the IMV thats available from ford.with a high pressure pump feeding acommon rail that feeds injectors.

if its not the 125ps but still 2.0 then you will have a tddi, and your fuel pump will inject to each injector with 4 pipes coming from it and a metering solonoid at the centre.

my van reg number is EO05 ZNR which when buying parts using reg number gives parts fitting 100ps model , but ive had van for nearly 2 years and have had clutch ,cv,s ,tie bars and track rod ends done at 3 different garages and each time all parts ordered from reg number have been returned and re-ordered for 125ps spec so im assuming due to parts supplied my engine is 125ps , my fuel pump no is0470004004 YC1Q-9A543-EF VP30-01 hope this helps

the 125ps has a totally different common rail diesel engine, most parts will be the same for all fwd vans, but some engine parts totally different.

your actual engine has the bosch vp30 fuel pump, which youve stated with the pump no. the 4004 at end of code tells you have the later fuel pump fitted this is important when ordering the correct metering solonoid, the early pumps have 4012 at end. This type of pump is fitted to the tddi engines, i believe ford dont supply the valve seperatly anymore so youll have to go to diesel specialist... have a look here.
