proper stupid question

am looking on auto trader for a van an its advertised lwb 190 (76ps) and a swb 80 (85ps) am lost with what the numbers mean is it 190 the wheel base an the 76 the engine power?

I might be completely wrong here, but this is how I think it works.
the PS number is the engine power (like bhp, but ps is the modern value). 76 ps is not very powerful but will do. the 190 part I think means it can carry 1.9 tonnes?? (i`m sure somebody will correct me here), also the van model number.

I have a transit T350 140ps, which can carry 3.5 tonnes and has a 140ps engine, so I`m assuming it`s the same throughout the whole range?

P.s. when I say it can carry that weight, that`s the MAX vehicle weight including fuel, water, body etc.

thank you ! but 76 bhp!! how duz it move? my p reg vectra diesel has more power than that lol not carrying loads of weight anyway am a gas fitter by trade so just need it long enuff to fit 3m pipe in side it

That bit's not, 3.5 tonnes is the gross vehicle weight which means it about the same as the 190 above.

You wont get a 3m pipe in a SWB. But the SWB above is a turbo and you could easily fit a 3m pipe rack on it.

i cant have a pipe rack round were am working, locked or not the smack heads pinch em ive had about 600 quids worth of works copper nicked over about 3 months. now am self employed i cant afford to loose that much was thinking of a cheap lwb to get me going till get a decent 1 but 76 bhp seems like its going to be a slug!

76 will be fine, it's what most the Mk5s out there will have under the hood.

how longs a piece of string, if its never been serviced and ragged! 45K itl be shagged.
if its beeen serviced every 10 miles by ford, kept indoors and only used on long hauls with no weight 200K and will feel showroom fresh.

In my experience most vans will be ok to about 100.000 miles even if their neglected. If u want a laugh my m8 had a new jag regularly serviced by the main dealer and the car was never thrashed and lovingly cared for got to 68.000 miles hey presto cam chain snapped engine wrecked / SO WHO KNOWS.

youd be better off getting a mk6, a lot more secure than a mk5 with cardboard locks, and you can fit 3m pipe in a SWB mk6.

Most of the plumbers out there only need a Connect now.All the pipe is nicely rolled up (Hep,Speedfit or Poly) and comes with a nice toolbox full of push-fit fittings.LOL

Seriously though,you can get 3m tube diagonally in Mk6 but difficult if it`s racked out.Cut a nice round hole in the bulkhead at floor level and the tube slides in with .5m between the front seats/handbrake.

You then have all comforts in Mk6,not like rattly old Mk5`s.

or with a mk6, if mhr or high roof, you can rest pipes on the shelf above cab and support it at back doors so its level, or rest it on the shelf again and drop it to the floor at the back doors, fits in easy........even 4" pipe can fit in with the mhr.

You can't use Push fit plastic for gas tho can you
