The solar panels that your talking about do have a tendency to discharge the battery...... Get your leisure battery hooked up to the alternator via a split charge relay....this will solve your problems guaranteed

i think this is the way to go but for the time being i just got a briefcase solar panel 4w with built in diodes so it cant discharge the battery(was £30 now£15 at maplins) the other 1 was only 1.5v with no protection
also have charged battery (12.80v) but still losing power so going to replace the 12v socket and the wiring and start again

How do you mean losing power? Don't think replacing the wiring is the answer!

Sound's more like dud battery, or cell. connect meter to battery terminals, then plug something in and see if the battery voltage still dissapears, if so, your battery is f@##ed

al sorted now ,the battery needed charging and topping up with fluid, i also ran a new earth to the battery and then to the body(dont know if i needed to have an earth to the body but cant hurt),and soldered all the connections.
Thanks for the help on this .I think i will have to get a new battery at some point and get it all wired through the alternator
