Stalling straight away

Postby Aleka » Wed Jul 19, 2006 4:57 pm

It's a mark 3 1986 2.0 pinto transit. As some of you know I've had a stalling problem after the van has warmed up. However now once Ive got it started it is constantly trying to stall it doesn't even need to warm up now its stalls straight away. It takes everything to stop it stalling on me. Constant blipping of throttle!
Any ideas guys? Or could it be that it's still running like a bag of cr*p from when I put that bit of diesel in it? Or could it be weather related??

do you have an ignition amplifier? (little black unit with a plug on one side under the bonnet)
these often often cause problems when engine gets hot the progressivly get worse like you described.
to prove that is the fault try freezing it while the engine is running (carefully using a can of lighter gas if you havent got any thing else),just press the nozzle of the can against the unit) make sure your in a well ventilated area though. and there are no sparks or fires near by

Think I really need to get the carb cleaned asap. The bl**dy garage has let me down and can't do it for 10 days! Not really very useful as I need to use it this weekend.
So if anyone fanices doing it le me know

Try a can of carb clearner, available from loads of spares places. Then get the tickover turned up.

I've been having the same problem with a MK2 over the last few days...

I thought carb at first so tried carb cleaner as its the easiest way...No Fix.

Then I thought seeing as I have a spare 32/36 DGAV it will be easier to just swap the carbs......No Fix :(

So, Try changing the points and condensor even though they looked perfect......No Fix. :( :(

Now I was thinking WTF :? I know, it must be the tappets being too tight cos the engine is virtuall silent, 2hrs later....No Fix  :? :(

So Just in case I stripped the top off the carb and took the idle jets out of the sides, all looked clean but blew them out with an airline all the same, put it back together and PERFECT :D Or so I thought

Start it up this morning so I can get my work van off the drive, and..... Back to square bleedin one again

I have just got back from a job and decided to simply take out the idle jets and blow them out again, then change the fuel filter, and once again she is running perfect :? :D :?

I'll keep an eye on it now and see what happens

No you're not going blind. I have no idea how to find out what carb it has. So if anyone can give me idiot proof instructions I will do my best to find out. I mean really idiot proof. I am a mechanical moron :D
