noisy rattle help

Postby trnsitvanman » Tue Jul 25, 2006 12:01 am

I have a noisy rattle from under the side of my van at very low revs just as you accelerate away (driver side mainly)this noise disapairs once past the lowest revs when accelerating away.
the van runs very smoothly the rest of the time.
Today I noticed a noise coming from the top left side of the rocker box cover that sounded like a loose valve lifter(like if you got two solid bits of steel and clanked them together, this disapaired within 20 seconds of the engine starting up .
Could this be the rattle I keep hearing when the window is fully down?
this is realy starting to annoy me because I am unable to get a scematic drawing of the engine at all anywhere.so I can see whats under the hood.

any Idears would be realy welcomed

could the first one be the exhaust rattling :?
You only need two tools in life: WD-40 and Duct Tape. If it doesn't move and it should, use WD-40. If it moves and shouldn't, use the duct tape.

is it front wheel drive? if it is and the noise is on your side then it could be the crankshaft pulley rattling - it's not unknown on these - it's damped and the bonding fails letting the two halves touch

a little bit of a "death rattle" is not unusual first thing (worse after an oil change) it's just the chain tensioner being a bit slack until it's pressurised
