mk1 engine change

Postby shug58 » Fri Sep 03, 2010 4:35 pm

Have got the old low mileage ambulance running and more or less converted to basic camper. iTS A 3LTR v6 and I'm currently eyeing up a '99 2.5 di banana engine and mt75 box with a view to a transplant. The V6 is fine (15k ! ) and starts and runs great but the mpg...Also, it being a camper I'm planning a few long trips and need to be able to cruise at reasonable motorway speeds.
Anyone out there any experience regarding any compatability issues I may face and/ or the general feasability of this notion.
Also, anybody wanna buy the nations lowest mileage V6 engine and 4 sp. manual box with all ancilliaries?

Hi if your mk 1 has the diesel front on it eg the bull nose front you will be ok if not you will need to cut off the front xmember and fit all the diesel front end . xmember bonnet .grill bumper . when themt75 box first came out there was a lot of vans in scrap yards with the transmission tunnel cut out so you may have modify this as well if you can weld it con be done . When I fitted a 2l pinto in to a v4 mk1 I had to do this to the front. as I used the same 4 speed box tunnel was ok. At that time all I did put the engine and box in the van hang it off the Crain and modify the engine mounting I got from a scrap yard .that was twenty years ago and parts for mk1 and 2 vans where plentiful

If you've got a good V6 you'd be one of the few who want to take it out for a DI!!! Why not just gas convert the V6?, easy and simple and prob cheaper and then you'll have cheap running as well as lots of power!!!!
