Ex RAC Transit Anderson Plugs

Postby daddyvan » Sun Oct 03, 2010 9:36 pm

Hi All,
Newcomer here wondering if anyone can help. I have a 2001 ex RAC Orange Transit, it is a 330 (RWD). It still has what I now know to be called Anderson plugs below the front grille, below the rear bumper and also just inside the side loading door. Does anybody know which size I need to hook up to these? I know they bear markings but cannot find a definate match after looking on line.I know they are genderless connectors but find they come in many sizes. I have bought a set of TVR jump leads off of E Bay but find they have a smaller Anderson type connector than the van. Also I cannot see how they come apart. I assume the cables are a push fit and seem to be spring loaded inside casing but can they be removed without damaging the casing? Any Help with this would be much appreciated.
Cheers

Not sure how useful this will be but "barden batteries" sell anderson plugs and may be able to advise?

I believe they are colour coded. Yes you can get the cables out, I use a screwdrive to release the catch.

Was wrong, colour is the voltage which you will obviously need to know, amps should be on the back which is the size.

Hi again.
Thank you gentlemen for your replies. I thought a screwdriver should be able to release the cables but where is the catch you speak of? Do I get to it from the front or the back of the casing. If I can unclip them I can Swap housings and get my leads working! Thank you both again for your help.
Cheers.

You wont be able to just swap the housings as the connections inside will be different.

For Anderson plugs & bits try your local HGV parts suppliers & motor factors . PLUS ask nicely at any fork lift truck places you might see , they all use& stock various sizes
hope it helps :)

Grab hold of the cable and push it forward, looking into the pin end of the plug you will see that the pin has a lip on its underside, into that you will see a thin metal plate, this is the spring holding the pin in place. push the plate down with the edge of a screwdriver and the pin will fall back and drop out.

Hi All
Thank you once again for all the help, particularly SirKit. Once I knew what I was about I removed the cables from the housings no problem and with a little bit of fettling got the housings swapped. Just had to file the ends of the cables a bit and they are now a good tight fit. Now for the next job...
