Can you change the PS of my Transit

Postby centurynort » Tue Aug 01, 2006 10:17 pm

I have a 2.4 90 ps rwd Transit van ( 2003 ). Ive noticed that ford do the exact same engine ( 2.4) but it is 115 ps. Can i have mine tweaked to that same power? If so, how? Thanks Jon Dickson

It's not a question of upping pounds per square inch (PSI) your trying to up the Pferdestarke (PS)

PS is the rated output of the engine, roughly 89BHP

The 115 uses a different fuel pump and turbo charger to those found on the 90

Best bet would be to have a superchip bluefin installed........:)

If you do a search on chips on the site it should give you some answers.

chip it mate and you wont look back! may cost £400 but it will be reliable and quick. you can take the (chip)with you to your next ford too(superchips will reprogramme yours to suit your next ford for a fraction of the original cost)and its massivly cheaper than messing about with another turbo etc!!!

hiya
if the bluefin chips can be used between vehicles, would"nt it be a lot cheaper if people shared with one another ,when you first use the bluefin does it have to be reprogramed, for the next van, and so on, would"nt it save people a lot money, just a thought.

I think you keep the bluefin plugged in, so to use it in another vehicle you would have to remove it.

had a look on bluefin site, and it looks like a handheld gadet with buttons and small display screen( like a digital watch ) and a lead that you plug into the service socket on the van and from what i understand you follow the instructions and it reprograms the chip allready in the van and if its right off you go, i think it just transfers codes from the devise to the van, then you would have to get the devise reprogramed to use again. (waiting to be shotdown, its not that easy,is it.)

I just looked at their website, £499 seems an awful lot of money. It states that I could have a 34bhp increase to 171bhp. I can't justify that really, as I never even use the power that's already there. However, I am interested in a remap for 2 reasons

Firstly to cure the light throttle issue on cruising - it turns into buckaroo when on the overrun and also the acceleration is a bit peaky, so it may smooth things off a bit.

Secondly to try to improve the economy a touch, it is nowhere as good as I hoped. Maybe I'll find out thow much the cost is to swap from 4.27 to 3.77 diff instead.

It might be worth checking out the DTUK module they sell on e-bay and the guy seems to be on the ball much cheaper than Bluefin but not as flash as soon as money permits I am going to buy one
