if you go down this route you will need to make some sort of false front for the rad and fans,belive me there is no room! !

now i would be very intreasted to se the pics..I was and still am thinking of putting a 3.9 v8 in my swb.and using the ldv box.

i do have some picks of when i done mine but i dont have a scanner! at first i had a bellhouseing made to the 4 speed type F box ,it worked ok but clutches kept juddering, (a usefull bit of info the clutch plate diameter splines are the same as the transit!) so in the end i went auto WOW it was so smooth !

if the worst comes to the worst, why not take digi photos of the pics? you will loose some quality, but not a lot!

i still run mad marks v8 powered transit goes like stink sounds even better has a twin exhaust system
i just went to the royal welsh in it full of stuff towing a caravan great fun
a v8 is fun and simply sounds better

rover V8 is underpowered and over priced now, it was ok when it was the only cheap lightweight V8, but everyone makes em now, I bought a 5 litre ohc all alloy mercedes engine and auto box for under £70, it makes 240bhp as standard and will last way more miles than a rover engine.

use the rover engine if thats what you know and like, but look around at what else is available first. even american V8's can work out cheaper AND cheaper for parts if you happen to be close to a big city.

I sold the engine Luke, but kept all the stuff i made just in case i ever want to build another one, but probably never will . well thats not tecnically true i want to build another one with a mk1, but finding one is going to be a problem it seems so if any of you know of one please keep me in mind, im after a swb mk1 van anything considered Thanks again.
right back on topic. here are a couple of pics one of the adaptor plate and the auto ring gear and manual flywheel which are both bolted to the crank with longer bolts. i'll find the engine mounts and other stuff if your still interested. like Mad Mark said there is little room for a radiator but if you get the p6 water pump you should be able to get something in there, if not you may have to get one made. also like popuptoaster said there are better engines out there, my next transit if i find one will have a 6.6litre pontiac engine as tested by the Bandit . saying that mine was on twin su's and sd1 exhaust manifolds and i did 115mph on the transit speedo with still more to go (on closed roads of course ) and as i said a little quicker on acceleration (in a straight line ) than a XR3I.

any idea on what sort of mpg you get from the v8 this was one option for mine . it was a 2.0 efi auto and i was only getting about 18 to the gallon so i was a bit off put by the idea of the v8. but im sure i would get more mpg from the v8 than the 2.0 .
so ive put the 2.5 di engine in which i know i aint gonna be happy with and the v8 idea is still playing on my mind. i will do it but if the mpg isnt that bad it will be done sooner than later lol..it will be my every day transport .so a rough guide would be nice please!!!!!

Can you run the V8 on LPG, that would be cheaper and i dont think you would lose any performance ?????????

yes you can run it on lpg a mate had a 5.7 v8 litre transit which i was in the middle of doing a deal with on my ford galaxy till it disapeared but i never asked what mpg was like.
performance wise the v8 will be a lot better the 2.0 efi as that was crap exept for take off.
his van was bright yellow with blue chequers on it and the reg is big ltr i thought there would be a pic on here of it was awsome . that was lpg and he had 150mph out of it till he lost his bottle lol i think its still in the area ill try and get some pics but it was well nice and running on ferrari rims.

ill have a look unless its been deleted. i know it cost in the region of £24000 to build at the time and we was getting it for £13000 at the time straight swap for the galaxy then some sh*t robbed it and by the time the insurance paid out he had already sold it... i was gutted but there you go.
so now im here with my project.. but i love the purr of the v8 theres no other sound like it! (in my opinion anyway ).i think ill run mine this year with the diesel then v8 it next year when ive finished the exterior. its so got to be done lol !

more options other than the rover or merc lump could include the chevy small block 305, ford 302 or 351, they are all pretty much to americans what the pinto engine is to us and are ludicrously cheap to rebuild. I've run vehicles in the past with all of the above engines, and I reckon the chevy was the best for power and economy. I had a caprice with this engine, even dragging 2 tons of detroit leviathan it could do 25mpg and 125mph. plus there are plenty of bolt on goodies for it (holly, headers, supercharger, you name it) parts are no problem but finding one in the first place could be tricky..you dont see cheap yanks around so much now.
I love the rover V8, I'm currently running an sd1, but 155bhp from a 3.5 litre isnt that wonderful by todays standards, and looking at rimmer's catalogue it seems that gaining more power is pretty expensive!
