wbie with gearbox problems HELP PLEASE

Postby newtrannie » Tue Nov 09, 2010 10:59 pm

bought an 02 2.0 td swb transit which will at times when you try to engage 1st it grinds and pops out as if it is not all the way in then can crunch going in to third, it can also make a big clunk when pulling off as if it wasnt in but then is falling into 1st. then i tried putting it in and out of 1st a few times and not into any other gear just in and out of first then in to first firmly and it doesnt grind or jump. my query is does this sound like the cables need adjusting or the selector mechanism or something else as im not sure because of the slight grind on third considering the clutch pedal is obiously depressed as im changing. please help me , please, please, please, please

I have repaired a few like this, sounds like the roll pin in the selector shaft has broke, the good news is you can unbolt the selector shaft housing and lift it out of the top of the box

Cant see it being the roll pin, normally when the roll pin pops out it will stop you getting it into gears (not sure which ones)
