Carb / start up problems

Postby vana mana » Mon Nov 15, 2010 12:44 pm

I seem to be on here more and more lately..just as i seem to get 1 job nearly finished another problem starts...

anyway here we go again..

i regularly start my petrol 2 litre pinto wagon / daily..but for a while it doesnt want to start correctly..i have to throttle it for a good while till warm and then the wagon runs fastish untill warmer then i think the auto choke closes off..' but not all the way lately '..ive cleaned the plugs and cap and checked the leads...i may have to replace the cap and plugs if i cant crack it...the smell of running rich is ridiculous whilst gassing it..but take my foot of the pedal..serious grunts and then death...
its doing my head in..and im wondering if its knackered carb?...
desperate for help ...free if possible ....tea and sarnies possible...

Ok had a butchers and didnt get on to well..it sais its a variable venturi carb..and then gets all technical..and i end up really lost...
im thinking if the auto choke is stuck on ..just release that area inspect clean put back together..but i know its got that spring thingy behind...

i got a carb and manifold of my old pinto 2 litre mk2 bus camper manual choke...i think my old bus had a vv carb also that must have had problems...because i found the left overs of the round auto choke mechanism connected by the two pipes flowing water through...not connected to the carb ..i took it off and put a joiner in..

do you reckon i could just bolt it on ???

ive also got another carb reconditioned..perhaps from something like an s-reg..but i got to find the manifold and throttle cable turn rod that will make it rev...AHHHH.now im just going round in circles....

PASS THE MALLET...SOMETHINGS GONNA GET IT !!!!

 on your old bus you will find that its had a manual choke conversion ,people left the part in that you are on about rather than fitting the pipe joiner
what happens with vv carbs is they overchoke once they are off choke they are normaly a good carb!
you could get a conversion kit to convert it to manual or replace the carb or try and adjust it , have a mess about with it and undo the 3 little screws and see what going on with the spring, once thing i will say if the choke wont work it wont start

Im back again...ive just noticed that on the carb on my wagon..' the one i think is playing up '
the automatic choke mark on the outer housing that the pipes go into is below the three marks on the carb itself...in the manual it shows this mark in the middle of the three marks
ive also had a look at two other similar carbs .. ' i think they are vv carbs ' and the mark lines up on the middle of the three marks as well..

Could this be the problem ????...before i think about swopping the carb manifold and set up for the one ive posted in the earlier pictures on this thread.. ' the manual choke model '

Thanks
