Been a little busy but spoke to the guy who I was negotiating with and they've dropped due to them scooping a contract with the BBC around the same time

I might try Rock Barracks and see what they've got and also RAF Wattisham.

we've had a bit of bad luck with another unit we we enquiring about the dentwizard training centre's insurers wont allow it

so we are back to square one

but i'm sure with all the people on here we can find an ideal unit so if you can help post up

at the moment anything will be considered but all being well we can get a nice unit in a central location

all the unit needs is

a flat floor and roof
240v power
somewhere to spray the van
somewhere close by we can all camp

it doesnt need lifts pits etc

if you can get us an offer of a place - find out if the owner wants any money for it? or if they are happy to donate it as its for charity, also ideally take some photos for us and see if there any restrictions

I may be able to get the workshops in the mill at Wookey Hole. Is it too out of the way or shall I ask?

at the moment its worth asking - ideally something around the midlands area would be better for everyone but at the moment beggers cant be choosers

I have a cold shed but i'm in Ireland and i don't think 25 thousand members would fit on my land but i'm near the beach 25 thousand transit on the beach dosen't help much i know

ideally mid England we dont need a ramp - just a floor, roof, walls etc. and somewhere for us all to camp

i have seen the problems you have got as in where to do the work and land to camp on, well have you ever thought of a inflatable building or a marque to build the van in, on a piece of land in which you can camp as well , and if because you are doing the van for a charity(i hope i've got this right,sorry if it's wrong) then ask for help from certain companys like Aplant hire or alike for a generator and other items such as a water bowser and lights and so on, so with abit of luck and hopefully good will you might just get everything you need and more , ands theres always making a video of putting the event on and from starting on here with the idea to the finished product also sometimes just by walking in a shop with a camara on your shoulder and asking for help works wonders because they want to be seen in a good light and often say yes. anyway its just a thought and who knows and all the bets ian.

this could be a possability - it will be in the summer but we would have to spray the van and for lining up the 3rd axle we would need a flat floor

It is all about insurance. No company is going to allow it We need a private individual that has a few barns or something.

been on the phone today to phil at dentwizard (walkie's gaffer) they have a training centre we can use in brimingham
quite central and built for the job just got a few things to sort out but it looks promising

us Essex boys could commute togethter to save on fuel either that or you can get the train there cheap £12 each way

i understand about a hard flat floor and why i said about the inflatable buildings. i live in rural norfolk and have seen alot of concret pads which farmers use for putting suger beat on when its been removed from the fields from about october onwards so the rest of the time its empty and unsued . as for a barn thats a really good idea but most farmers are funny about people using them. . as for the insurance for a one off event, well i'm the chairman of a street events committee in norfolk and our insurance cost £280.00 a year for 2 street events and a few fund raising events as well as the christmas trees and flags up along our high street,if you want i can give you the name of the insurance people we use and they might be able to help . i hope this helps and i hope all goes well . ian.

£280 for events & parties. But we are working with vehicles which are polluting & dangerous. Also Oxy-Acet gas. Electric welding. Noxious paint fumes. Tyres. PVC weld. Sewing machines. Fuel....... The list goes on.

It needs to be a private individual with land.

Problem with a company, any employee has much more to loose if anything goes wrong, than to gain if it goes well, so will say no, using insurance or similar as the excuse.
We need to speak to someone with something to gain.

yeh i see what you are saying about insuraneces and so on, but i think you may need a sponser to sort out the fine details some one like ford themselves which looks good for them and for you as a team and the charity. , but i just must say that as i think this is a fantastic event and can not wait to see the finished van, there are a few issues that we had when we started with the street fairs , there is always someone who will not be happy with what is going on an put a spanner in the works so with this in mind and i want to see this work and not fall foul of things and because you are having money donated to the cause under the charity umbrella (public money) then you need a committee and a constitution to show and proof where,when and what money was spent on what . the gov and the charitys do look in on things at times and if there not correct they do fine you . personally i think its just a way of squeezing more money out of you if thay can. we were lucky because a memder on our team sorted it out before anything bad happened .all the best ian.
