There was a time when fog lights were normally yellow, but I don't know if the law has been changed since then :?

Forward facing fog lamps can be yellow or white. Some drivers find that yellow lamps give less reflective glare in foggy conditions, however there is no scientific proof that yellow light performs any better than white light in poor visibility.

Mounting your fogs on the roof could be against the law. Front fogs must be mounted symmetrically on the front of your vehicle, no more than 400mm in from the sides and no more than 1200mm above the ground.

Full vehicle lighting regulations for the UK here.

Note: European Vehicle Harmonization regulations should mean that the UK regs are similar if not identical to those of most EU countries.

I wouldn't worry about been stopped in Ireland for having yellow fog lights, look around you on an average day and see how many cars are driving with their fog lights on permanently, and they never get stopped, go for it Tom be a rebel :D :D , they might even open up the station again for you :D
