Splutter then Slow-mo

Postby 4 x 4 » Wed Aug 23, 2006 1:30 am

Hiyo all
 THIS BESTEST SITE FOR TRANNY INFO!

Image

My smiley 4x4 2.4turbo sometimes runs gr8, but normally is not on full power, and often will splutter in low revs (especially in morning) and occasionally MIL light comes on and will go into slow-mo. It normally forgets its gotta problem if I turn it off and on again, but not always.

Please can any1 can help/advise with any ideas or suggestions?

Sounds like the flywheel sensor might need a clean
While you're at it you may as well give the air flow one a clean as well :D
Has the EGR valve gone sticky :?:

Only when cold :?: Hot :?: Any pattern :?:

Thanks for such quick response m8
Can go into slow-mo at any time even when ticking over, I think normally when warm.
Will splutter at any time in low revs, especially when cold end especially jst b4 MIL light comes on.
Although when its spluttering, seems to hava dead patch on the throttle I have tried woggling the peddle in all positions with no effect.

changed the filters when it first started doing this. have jst checked the derv filter but all seems well there
Used to get the water in filter light intermittently, but fixed that with tape around wires at sensor and think unrelated to this prob.

will hava look at both sensors in the mornin
still cant quite sus out the EGR not sure which pipe to pull for the click noise  ?

hi top lwb btw  not hi cube :(
You only need two tools in life: WD-40 and Duct Tape. If it doesn't move and it should, use WD-40. If it moves and shouldn't, use the duct tape.

I cleaned the air sensor, wiped the swarf of the speed sensor, checked the EGR unit and wiped the crap out of the pipes...To no avail :( .
Thought I had found prob when I noticed crack through washer at the bottom of derv filter.....But no :( .
Next thing starter solenoid packed up whilst going down M1(after perpetual turning off an on)
On the final leg of my journey around England, occurred to me to check the engines earth. Pegged my torch charger onto the transfer gear stick......and hey presto...I’ve found it.......I could kick myself . Hadn’t tried it b4 cos it always started fine. Now have jump lead from battery to engine till I stop long enough to do proper job. I am so happy to have my 2.5 turbo (please excuse earlier misprint) power back on and no more slow-mo!!  8)

So the motto of this story is...............if you have an EPIC Turbo transit, you must make sure your earthing is in good condition
