worth keeping?

Postby simgy » Fri Jul 08, 2005 1:45 pm

just been given a g reg tranny di with the pencil injectors+ cav pump runs starts ok but although it produces minimal smoke from the exhaust it does blow quite a bit from the oil filler pipe. anyone know what the likely cause of this is and would it be worth fixing, or should i just leave it to the crusher :?:

most di,s do fume from the filler ,this can also be caused by crap thin oil and it might not of had a oil change for along time! the rings maybe gone but if its not smokeing then unlikely! the 1990 engine was a very strong engine! :D

not shure about the stop start they are abit harsh,is it possible to take her for a run??????? and see what she is like, the sqeeke could be the fanbelt? or at worst tight engine (oil pump) but unlikeley i think! :?

i did about 40 miles when i collected it and it seemed ok but something smelt a bit dodgy when i got out at home, like a hot oily type of smell also the engine seemed a bit too warm although was reading ok on the gauge.dont think the squeek is the belt , maybe u right about the pump im gonna sniff it out with a can of wd40 later.

the squeak could be from the water pump, if your going to keep this engine and change the cam belt, you might want to consider changing the water pump as a matter of course as well

If you're going to do the belt I would say change the pump don't check, I did that and about 2 days after I changed the belt the water pump started leaking.
