mk6, 06 plate transit with 6000cd, better sound needed

Postby adamv6 » Fri Aug 25, 2006 9:32 pm

hello people, i'm fairly new, been a member for a bit and have been having a really good read around the site.

now then i started a new job a couple of weeks ago (mobile engineer for powered access company) and was given a spanking new mk6 06 transit 85/260.

at my last job i had a 53 transit 90/330 that had the standard tape player, i took it out and put a clarion cd player in with my rockford fosgate amp and 2 12" kenwood subs and it sounded good.

i don't want to put my amp and subs in the new van and don't really want to put the cd player in as the standard one is fine, but i need more sound.

i've noticed with the new radios in the transits that they cut the bass out at around 18 volume, this is bad.

if i upgraded the speakers would the standard radio keep it's bass or would it still cut out? and what have you none about the system in your vans?

would welcome some ideas.

thanks for reading.

Hey Adam,

I too used to have that cd player in my van , you can turn off the volume limiter thing (clip) its in the main menu , but to be honest it doesn't make much difference , it will allow the speakers to distort thats about it.

Speaking from experience its the radio that runs out of oomph before the speakers as i have now installed a sony headunit 4 x 52 watts and it goes loads louder. It actually is a very good sound that comes out of the standard speakers when they are fed more power, i think its something to do with having the big doors as cabinets, the bass is now very pleasing. I was gonna install an amp and a small sub behind the passenger seat but to be honest it doesnt need it.

So to summarise the ford cd6000 is a decent enough player but lacks the power if you want to turn it up LOUD.

cheers

Matt

thanks for your reply matt, i'll have a go at turning the limiter off for now and probably just end up changing it for a normal one.

i tried in vein to replace the standard speakers too but no one lists anything cos there and ood size, as mentioned earlier turning the limiter off only makes it distort.
i tried a custom bass box/amp combo but it still didnt sound right.so i think changing the head unit is defo a good option

Fit a 6006 and it sounds excellent IMO.

Better built in amp than the 6000.

Its the six disc Ford unit.

A few makers do list speakers for them! 3 way ones as well.

I took out my standard tape unit and fit an Alpine cd head unit with Ipod link. The ipod sits in the glove box and acts as a HUGE cd dukebox with fast access and no jumps over lumpy ground...good sound quality too. I replaced the standard door speakers with after market kenwood ones. The original door speakers are 6 by 8s so make sure you get ones that fit exactly or you can get some with a fitting kit.

Next step for me is bass as my door speakers are 2 way....guess I'll probably get a small active sub/tube for behind the passenger seat. :D
Love me, love my van.
