Postby maxlee » Sun Jan 23, 2011 2:35 am

hi guys

i did do a serch topics i found never had a real clear anser but did help a little just want to make sure

i have a R reg 190lwb twin wheeled 2.5di its a beaver tail / recovery truck
so it's loaded alot of the time i changed the oils before i did a 1700 mile round trip to pick a car up for my friend, used it for a week or so after then parked it up for 4~7 days jumped in it the othere day and it sounds like a wheel bearing or bearing some were is not healthy. i'll have a play later on after some sleep.

what i really want to know is what oil to use in the gear box and the diff i got a real bad feeling that the parts place using there w*** computer have given me the wrong oil would it have done much damage to gear box and diff in 2000 miles 1500 being at 55 60mph :?

you need MT75 oil, which is red in colour and a bit like ATF

Some places will try to sell you a normal gear oil

tbh even if they gave you gear oil for the box it probs wont have caused damage, its just so thick it wont go into gear when cold

if they gave you MT75 oil and its now in the diff then there could be problems

No MT75 oil is still red...

75W90 is not the correct stuff to put in a pre '2000 gearbox.

i think 75 90 is what they gave me is a bit stiff when cold
we had a play to day and its gear box or front prop shaft bearing so going to disconect the prop and go through the gears 1st to 3rd at low revs fingers crossed its the prop bearing but oil will be getting changed thanks guys still going in tomorrow and having aword pikey style after all i own a dotg a recoverey truck and 2 4x4s so i might as well live up to the rep
