Bloody mondeo clocks again

Postby Guy88 » Wed Aug 30, 2006 6:25 pm

I have finaly started fitting the mondeo clokcks in my dads '99 120 smiley. i have a problem with the fuel guage. the guage is backwards  ie i got 3/4 of a tank in the van and 1/4 on the guage  rev counter is hopefully easy as i have forun the alternator wire. its just the fuel guage.

I had this on the Mk3 and i swapped a wire around and all was well. dont want to fiddle with wires on this as its not mine and ist leccy speedo. what wires need swapping :?:

I have now narrowed it down.

According to my TIS disc the fuel guage and speedo are on the same 12v feed and the same earth. so ir they are backwards the fuel guage is backward and the speedo dont work  just need to work out what pins to swap

Its complicated isn't it!

PLEASE (pretty please!) let us know how you get on!
From the look of it, if you solve it and start selling pm's with a fix for £1 each, you could retire!

I had bother with mine aswell, still have really. Ive gettin the speedo and revs counter to work but the fuel gauge does what it wants. here is a couple of pictures of the speed head you need for the electric type speedo's.

I still cant get the fuel gauge to work properly though, it mostly works back to front but it also likes to put the fuel light on when you have filled the tank

the speedo is from a late mk1 mondeo turbo diesel, the 1st to have the electric speedo heads fitted. I tried other clocks 1st, either the revs counter was wrong, or the speedo didnt work because they only had 3 pins instead of 6 on the back of the mileometer

yeah, 3 across the top, 3 down 1 side of the mileometer. Im sure its the 3 pins down the side that reads the speed on a transit clock as I had a mondeo clock which only had the 3 pins across the top and it didnt work.

The best idea is to get one close to the age of the tranny.
