Crud

Postby fedup2 » Sat Mar 05, 2011 6:01 pm

What sensor is this? What would the symptoms have been when it was covered in crud?

Ive cleaned it and had the thing off that holds it and anyone that has had one off knows how much fun they are :(

Havnt tried it yet but i expect some improvement somewhere.

its either 1 of 2 things.
map sensor (manifold absolute pressure) or manifold temp.
part of engine managment system
symptoms would be rough running or increased mpg yuo will find that the whole intake system from the egr to the head will probably be the same :(
300 mwb fwd. k&n filter, de-cat, egr blanked.

To be fair the housing that the sensor fits on did have some crud in it but ive seen a lot worse, ill give it another 10/15 thou before giving the inlet manifold a clean.

Im really hopeing removing that crud will see some big benifits, theres no way that it could have been working right.
Ive had my van mapped this week and its already brutal, hopefully this will help a bit more.I did go round the block and it did feel pretty good.
I cleaned the maf last week is there any more i should be pulling?

Been under the bonnet again today and it looks wet near the map sensor.I had the map sensor housing off yesterday and it was cleaned.Today it looks wet and i did notice before it looked wet but wasnt convinced.Ive only done about 20 miles since it was done.
Any ideas where this may be coming from? When the housing was off i did put some petrol in it to see if there was a leak but there was nothing obvious, are these prone to anything or could it be from somewhere else?
I really wouldnt look forward to removing it again the metal pipe bolts at the back ar near impossible to get onto :(

Dont hold me to it but i think its oil.I have had the airbox off a couple of weeks ago and didnt see anything untoward.i havnt done much mileage since the map sensor clean but it wasnt the miracle cure to anything i expected it to be although it does seem to start instantly now and i could be wrong but i think the mpg has gone up,that might be wishfull thinking though :(
For a van that has done just over 50 thou its fooking discusting!I feel like going out and buying a new one the only problem with that is would it be any better???
