Air locks ??? Grrr...!

Postby kapri » Sun Sep 10, 2006 5:45 pm

Well I've been slowly working through my '98 on 2.5 di engine ( not the bunch of bananas one ). I've already changed the fuel filter to try to sort an intermittent air lock in injectors problem.

Yesterday I fitted a new lift pump and replaced the cracked rubber sleeve fitted to the tank supply pipe ( some one has cut off the ' snap on ' type fitting). I also changed the bleed off pipe arrangement on the injectors putting the return from number 1 instead of 4 plus a nice new air filter element .

It's now even WORSE , requiring bleeding 3 times in a 150 mile round journey with the last one not being successful , well so far.

There is mention on another thread of a load sensitive piston in the injection pump that sometimes sticks ? Can anyone point me in teh roght direction on that one please

Is there any particular areas I should look for air coming into the system as it's now officially getting on my tits !

Does it run okay for a bit then require bleeding? If it does then check the breather on the tank and also the strainer on the suction line inside the tank.

I take it this is the bosch pump. It could be a seal in the injection pump, it went in one of ours and wasn't as bad as yours, but you could stop to fill up and then it would need bleeding.

Yup, runs OK for awhile and then , without rhyme or reason ,it needs bleeding again. It is the Bosch pump which a previous owner had been told wasn't well but would that keep causing continous need for bleeding ?

What's the sort of price to be expected for getting one looked at / overhauled if it turns out to be that ?

Can anyone point me at thhis diaphragm thing ?

Good news, I should have workshop manual tomorrow !!!

Try this first as it is quite common!
