I'm pretty sure I used a 555 some years ago to operate a vcr (bringing the record pins out on wires as you have with the satnav)...though it might have been slightly different as it was triggering off a motion sensor. There are loads off 555 circuit variations , I reckon you could mod that to do what you want.
Look forward to seeing the finished result as it looks like I will be doing the same once the weather is a little better. I'm sure plenty of people could use your switch on circuit when you have perfected it!
Look forward to seeing the finished result!

too many things on the go at once.....snatched a little time tonight to clean the plenum....

Image

looked ok but the paint just fell off!

its really grubby inside....

Image

butterflies caked too...

Image

any idea whats best to clean it out :?: caustic soda / oven cleaner is no good on aluminium...

also painted my engine mounts....

Image

and the lump is on the stand cleaned ready for painting. block is going to be red, rocker covers aluminium silver, might do the plenum white but not sure, might keep it silver... :?

CRACKING READ GAV! hope youve enjoyed getting ya head around the electricals, ive helped do similar in the past and i always end-up imparting the age old phrase 'GOTTA HAMMER'
we used to clean aly bits with road cleaner (acidy sort of stuff i believe) in a hot jet wash, worked a treat even on the inside of old Landy intercoolers (think that the heat did most of the work!)

Lovely thread and some blinding workmanship all the best and hope you get it to North Weald!

PS does someone have a 2-stroke habbit :?:  8) nice fighter in the shed

i didnt realize before i stripped the paint but the fluted sides of the plenum arent part of the main casting, they're seperate castings machined and bonded onto the main body with chemical metal, wonder why they didnt weld them :?

got the rocker covers off to paint them.

the right hand bank is really gunked up and looks a bit dry, but the left hand bank just has a bit of laquer and a sheen of oil. have i got a problem here :?: should i spin it over on the stand, drop the sump, clean it all up- maybe fit a new oil pump? or just chip the solid stuff out of the head and run some engine flush through it?

im looking at about £350 for the gaskets and pump or £20 for a can of wynns..that money would go a long way to paying for my manifolds, so im tempted to leave it, but dont want the motor to go pop.....decisions... :? :? :?

cams look good for the 100k its done, and the sump dosent leak and its never shown an oil warning light when it was in the granny....

right hand, looks better in the pics than it is:
