Rear brakes - 91-94 or 94-97?

Postby Shiny » Tue Sep 12, 2006 10:47 am

 Why do I always buy a year changeover vehicle?!

Rear brakes. It's a 94 'M' plate 2.5 Mk.4, I need to replace the rear shoes, return springs and handbrake cable.

In the parts shop it lists 91-94 and 94-97 as different part numbers.

Will the 94 on ones be for the smiley front Mk.5? Do I need the 91-94 ones?

Also, do you deffo NOT need to remove the half shafts to replace the rear shoes? Sounds ludicrous if so. :?

Cheers. :)

Odd. The 'parts shop' I mentioned before was Halfords, I don't use them but was just passing and wanted to check if they're different. It listed 2 different part numbers.

Got them from Partco, they list them as one part number for 91-97 on both 14" and 15" wheel. :?

No-one seems to do return springs and pins, so looks like dealer time for them.

You don't need to remove the half shafts to fit the new brake shoes. I done mine a couple of months ago and the new return spring set cost me 37 euro a pair. Use cable ties to compress the anti rattle springs until you have the retaining caps on then cut them and pull 'em out

as said you don't don't need to remove the half shaft and hub but it doesn't take long and it makes the job a whole lot easier :D
