gonna be silver mate. i just realised the van will end up the same colours as my tzr500 bike project red / white / black / silver. no design just ended up that way

the gunk came of the rocker covers nicely with the Virosol, still concerned about the amount of cack in the heads though, anyone got any thoughts on cleaning it up :?:

only one head though, the other one (with the oil cap) is very clean :?

i guess if i use the virosol and run plenty of flushing oil through it it should be ok.....just dont want to leave any detergent in the motor!

been pissing about with the wheels, not happy as per the other thread, dont know where im going with them now. still... other stuff is getting done...

rocker covers a bit cleaner now! :D

Image

virosol is the mutts, it cleans way better than gunk or jizer and dosent leech the fat from your hands and dry out your skin like they do, and its less than half the price of either - amazing stuff!!

heres a reminder of how bad they were..

painting them and the cosworth badges tomorrow.

also finally got the drawing done for the carbon insert for the dash pod, dropped it and the carbon sheet off at the waterjet cutters on friday, should have it back in a week, might even have it built and working by the end of the weekend, cant wait

more work on the dash pod, got the carbon back from the waterjet cutters.

Image

the cutting was done by http://www.aqua-dynamics.co.uk at a cost of £47 and the carbon came from http://www.carbonology.com but the guy who did the cutting said the carbon wasnt very good quality :( it was full of surface pits and the weave wasnt tight, so it chipped on the weave when cut, he re cut it from the reverse and it cut ok that way, but it cost me a bit of my carbon sheet to find this out. he showed me some stuff that he buys which was better, but you'd need to study it really closely so im happy with what ive got.

clock installed....

and in the dash pod....

got the TV screen and the guts of the satnav bonded onto the carbon, just waiting for the plastic polishing kit to arrive so i can tidy up the front piece where ive cut it and then that too can be bonded to the carbon.

im going to make up a bracket that connects to the brass inserts in the back of the pod to the screws that hold the clock to the carbon, thus holding the front of the pod onto the rear part.

i can access these from the holes underneath, then access the mounting holes for the whole unit through the radio aperture, this way all the fixings will be hidden. :D also got some veroboard so i can make up the relay unit that will switch the satnav on and off with the ignition.

Would it be a good idea to permenantly attach a lead to the satnav so its easy to update?

it still needs the mini usb to feed it power, so will have a lead connected. i need to figure out a way of having a lead that supplies power but allows me to have a female USB port somewhere on the dash so i can update it from a laptop. cant find a lead off the shelf, guess i might have to get a USB pin diagram and splice some leads so the power comes from one side and the data from another, dont know it thats possible though.

i might just have a connector hidden in the ashtray or just accessable under the bottom of the dash where i can unplug it rom the vehicle and plug it to the laptop.

Get a 12V to USB (something like this)

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Black-Universal-M ... 4aa9106baf

Hardwire the 12V and stick it under the dash out of the way somewhere. Plug the satnav into it and when you want to update the satnav just unplug the cable?

Can all be up under the dash out of the way?

Or use a powered USB hub under the dash somewhere?

The powered hub will need 5V, so the first idea is the best, all that device does is drop the voltage down to 5V (and *should* restrict the current to 500mA if it's following USB spec.).

ive found the pinouts for a mini usb, +ve -ve data up data down and a sensor wire, anyone know if i can strip out the power and data into seperate cables so the power comes from the van and the data leads to a usb socket? or does the data transfer rewquire the power to run to both ends?

If everything in use follows the USB spec. - no. If not following the USB spec. to the book, + and - can be used to supply power and both data lines AND - can be connected for the data. However, keep it simple and just unplug from the power adapter into a laptop, saves cutting leads up and is guaranteed to work and won't cause any problems in the long term.
