transit tipper never even broke a sweat

Postby geordie white van man » Sun Sep 17, 2006 8:57 pm

Found a new way to get a car on the back of this tipper the other week. These pics were taken today as the latest "victim" to be shown the scrap yard. We used the 4 post ramp at work, backed the truck up to it, then let the ramp down so the legs at the back of the ramp (where the car would go up to get on the ramp) sat on the rear of the truck. Pushed the car onto the back of the truck, used a sky jack to lift the rear of the car and rolled the truck forward very slowy so the ramp legs would clear the truck. then lifted the ramp in the air, enough so the rear of the car is raised and we lifted the tailboard back up. 3 big ratchet straps held the car onto the truck. job sorted! This is now the 4th car we have shoved on. The lightest was a nova with no engine which we actually got a corner each and picked it up ourselves and shoved it on, the heaviest was an old london taxi which was over the weight limit but the truck never even broke a sweat!

Wow that looks completely safe, and I am sure the police would think so too! Nice pics all the same...

Yeah it was actually safe. Once the cages go up on the sides. Then ratchet straps round the back so the car cant slide off the rear, then 2 straps over the top aswell. Incedently we Saw 1 traffic cop but he was going over the roundabout just before we did and as we were going in a different direction I cant be entirelly sure he would have seen us. The insurance isnt a problem as its insured to basically carry anything aslong as its not over weight and not carrying stuff like toxic chemicals or anything of that nature.
We have a Citroen xantia turbo diesel to collect on wednesday, so you can guess where thats going aswell!! :D

To be honest I dont know. The nova and the escort we had on were ok as they just stuck over slightly, whereas the cavy and the london taxi were, well a bit longer  .

They dont make it easy do they. The motoring laws in the Uk are crap. They should get all the dickheads off the roads.

You should video you putting one on, show others how its done.

I was told that my ladders couldn't be more than one meter from the back of my van and was allowed to measure from my step :!: :D

They also need to have some sort of red warning flag

However there is NO allowance for front overhang :!:  Whatsoever :!:
