Great reading, good advice on the window front, just ordered and paid 4 mine, got them in privacy flavour! , going to get tailgate and fronts done to match also, like the graphics on windows also,

I often put black graphics on black surfaces - it's quite subtle, which I like. The advantage of graphics on the window is it's dead easy to pull off and replace with something new in six months time

I'm trying to come up with some design for the back windows, but most of my stuff is intended to be one piece.

Made a start on the mount for the passenger seat last night and got bloody sun burn from the welder (180A MIG on max for 2.5mm thick steel). Was going to finish off tomorrow but had a couple of spare hours and managed to get a bit more sun burn (even though I was working in the shade) and a coat of paint on!

Passenger seat is now in and I like it. These BMW seats look much better than the Ford seats.

Nice job as per usual Tut tut though welding with your skin out Wouldn't the bases benefit from a diagonal brace ? They look plenty meat enough just wondered about the twisting forces if you know what I mean Id love to put some Focus st seats in mine but as a working van they wouldn't be very practical

Thanks I did think about braces, but decided against them because the square tubing is 2.5mm thick which is a bit of an overkill for the job it's doing. I'm quite confident in the welds too, 180A MIG on the highest setting and the steel was flowing well. If I'd gone for 1.5mm I would have put braces in. These are rock solid, absolutely no movement at all, I reckon they'd pull the 4 bolts through the floor before anything on the base gave

You could put some focus seats in then put seat covers on, but I guess that partially defeats the point of replacing the seats.

Yeah, I know about welding with exposed skin, when I had a small hand held mask a few years back,I had a band on my neck, it was it looked like I hadn't washed for ages. I should have put the sun block on before welding!

They certainly lokk meaty enough you can never gauge chunkyness gauge in pics I was more worried about the bolsters on st seats tbh as I'm in/out a lot Mine has got good heavy duty waterproof seat covers on anyway

Yeah, the bolsters would get a more of a hammering on a van than a car because you pull yourself up and over them where as in a car you lower yourself over them. But if you pick a seat that's readily and cheaply available, could be worth it

There was a chap from Holland "Vegar" I think was his username, he's got a blue sport and he fitted the mk1 Focus RS seats and I've got to admit they looked the DB's in the van

My main reason for swapping the seats was so I could get from the front to the back without getting out of the van, but I also think they make the van look much better as well. They stand out as different and I much prefer the colour (suits a black van better than the originals).

Go for it, stick some new seats in, if it doesn't work out, put the originals back in

Just tidied up the seat base on one side, ran out of ply so not done the other side yet though.

I think the blue plastic of the underside of the dash looks rubbish, especially in a sports van, why couldnt they put it in a more subtle colour. Maybe you could mod that.

I was thinking the same... the only thing that makes it difficult is the glove box. Maybe a paint would work... if I can find one that sticks to the plastic. Any recommendations?

I'd put some diagonal bracing on that seat base as it wouldn't take much force to fold it in an accident.
