replacing 4 sp gear box with m75 5 speed

Postby avro » Thu Jul 21, 2005 4:28 pm

Needing more power for 85 transit 120 with 1.6 ohc pinto and 4 sp box.
On ebay for £50 (only bid) MOT failure, aquired 1990 Transit Bonus van with 2ltr 205 engine and 5 speed box, cost further £80 to get it trailered from Leisester to Etwall near Derby.
Engine, gearbox and diff seem to work well.

The engine struts appear to be the same so a strait engine swap looks simple.

it looks as though the gear lever will fit the same opening, not to sure that the gearbox will have enough room in the tunnel

the gearbox support member, the m75 is deeper than present box and so is the x member
Q. it looks as though the bolt holes are in differst places so intend to weld the bonus cross member in position, is this okay?

The propshafts are different lengths.
Q. finding the correct length propshaft?
would it be okay to cut one down, sleeve and weld it?

The secondary prop bearing support strut need to be repositioned?
Q. bolt holes not available, is it okay to weld?

maybe fit the bonus radiator?

The diff on the bonus looks the same
Q, would it be better to swap the whole thing or just the mechanics?l

thanks

avro , you have a mk2 ?? most of the stuff will fit you will need to cut a hole in the floor to take the gearstic for the mt75,this is not a problem just cut out the floor from the donor van! everything should fit with alitle bit of messing around! i think the crossmember will also fit, i converted a mk2 lwb many years ago from 2ltr to di mt75 and the only thing i had to do was cut the floor! the prop etc all fitted, i even used the mk3 rad ! i am shure if you have any probs somebody on this site will be able to help! :D

madmark . thanks, will start the project mid august.
It is a mark 2, the side door opens outward and forward, somehow thought this was an attribute?
