Front Subframe Kit MK5 190 6 Stud

Postby mk5 baby » Sun May 15, 2011 10:16 am

Hi

Just been reading my advisory notes on my van and not in need of a new one yet but interested to know how much is a new subframe kit I suppose if was to do it I would do the lot springs, wishbones etc.

Does anyone know of a kit for my van model and any ideas on cost.

Any ideas on what's the labour time in removing & fitting new?

What do you mean by a "subframe kit" as far as I know there is no such thing. What items are you looking to replace?

You would do well to walk in to your friendly local motor factors and ask for a price for the bits you want.

Well at the mo the garage guys say offside front subframe mounting area described as corroded but not excessive.

Just been cautious and trying to clue myself up on costs beforehand.

i wouldnt bother doing all the bushes some last for ever and are a right pain to do - if you do want to give it a refirb do the strut top mounts and btm ball joints should be about £60-80 :)

but the advisory is a welding job :!:

Hi thanks

The advisory not requiring welding at mo looking at it just surface rust around the bolt but can't say it of any concern otherwise they would have failed it instead.

the advisory u mentioned refers to the area that the subframe bolts to so it would mean a rusty chassis. if ur going to do it then remove all the subframe, weld both sides up while ur at it, then do whatever it was u want to do to the subframe while its off.

I'm not going in to that one. I'm just asking a simple question of what & how much

You don't by any chance know of prices of a new subframe, springs, bones.

You could be right might be slight corrosion on the rails which would hate the thought of but I'll put it through it's MOT again and see what others say if ends up saying no that's not acceptable then will have to be changed.

Van can't be scrapped cost to much so will have to grim & bare it.
(At least in time a newer owner will have a new van just about  )

Hopefully this should not happen yet I hope
