Is the old Ford radio true 2-din? It looks a little bit smaller.
If it's double din, it might be a nice idea to mount on of these 2-din multi-function radios integrated with sat nav and whatever :)

yes you are right it is not double DIN, my mistake. I reallly like the space under the stereo to put handy things I want easy access to. I am thinking of putting a pull out ipod dock in the ash tray....

Yeap - this is what I remembered. It's a pity it's not a full 2din. There is lots of not-so-expensive cd/mp3/dvd/divx players which are also bluetooth handsfree sets and satnav. Might be a nice addition to old Tranny :)

well I have a spare double DIN fascia for there so I can always play around with that one if I find the right head unit ;-)

Today I mostly was an Apple Man ;-)

I get fed up with having Sat Nav, ipod, iphone blah blah lying on top of the dash and so did some modding today.......

Took a £1.00 twin USB cigarette adapator from Poundland and soldered some wires to it.

Image

NOTE: the brown wire at top of picture is where I soldered the earth as I did not initially want to take the unit apart. As I test and retest at each step I was surprised when it did not work. Splitting the unit revealed that the earth clamps that hold it into the lighter socket are only wired on one side, and well I had chosen the wrong side. As I split it I then decided to solder the earth right into the unit but in order to retain the protection of the small amp fuse I soldered the live cable to the nipple.

Then I set about modifying the ashtray:

Image

I hotglued an original Apple docking station in place as the Poundland ones have too high a back. Both the 3.5mm and USB leads came from there as well.

The unit is hidden under here:

Voila:

I have not road tested it as yet but a play with the steering wheel indicates it shouldnt foul when driving.

Despite having a ton of other important things to do today the van got some time as well 8)

Started with just a simple speaker change.
Out with the old:

In with the new:
Image

Thanks to the search facility and the knowledge of others I managed to wire them up properly this time after doing the AAA1.5v battery trick.

Whilst I had panel off and speaker out I set about seeing how difficult to get two more wires into the door mirrors for the amber LED indicators I want to put in the mirror casing.

Need to take mirror off. Remove backing and then removing the front part of casing. The bottom two screws are hidden under the blind spot mirror which is stuck on with double sided tape.

Image

With a little jiggedy pokery I got a twin cable through the mirror.
Image

Then a little bit more and it goes from the door into the van through the exisitng grommets and shrouds.

Image

Checked it all worked then put door back together as had to rush out.........

Had some other priorities so Tourneo took a back seat for a while.....

I only just got to replace passenger side speaker after doing the other one in June! Good lesson learnt. Check behind where you are going to drill. Installed speaker and then a few hours later when got home from workshop realised central locking stopped working. Took it all apart and found this.....
Image

Thankully not too bad.
Image

Then got on with sorting out LED indicators in mirrors and on the rear vents together with high level LED brake lights. 8)

Second Lesson Learnt. Permanent marker is just that! I used on inside of the vents to aid a straightline and then again on outside of the mirror covers without thinking. got most of the passenger side with heavy duty wipes then it got late so I will have a go at passenger one tomorrow.

Got the LED's from some place in Japan via Ebay after seeing someone else's post on here.

Oooo meant to ask. Can anyone recommend a remote control setup so I can use the central locking on a remote? I don't mind installing an alarm if that is a practical way to do it, nothing too expensive mind!

Nice idea putting the LEDs in the rear vents. The LEDs in the mirrors look good as well, that's what I'm intending to do but putting one row horizontally.

A double din stereo can be made to fit with just a little bit of trimming to the dash, I had mine fitted like that for a while before I decided to chop about a spare dash fascia so it fitted perfectly

In the end I stayed with the two single DIN units as I like that cubby hole for cables and stuff!!!
